A strong girl group is the support system we all need.
I never had many friends while growing up. Partly because we moved around a lot when I was little, and partly because I was a very shy, and socially awkward child. For a while it was just me and my brother against the world.
Eventually, I did have to learn how to socialise. I even made friends. However, what I noticed was that they were all boys. No matter how much I tried, I could never really find any girlfriends. I just didn’t know how to talk to them. It’s like they spoke a completely different language from me. One that I didn’t know how to learn. And at some point I gave up trying. I’m a tomboy, let’s just accept it, I thought.
That changed a few years ago, when I met a couple of girls who ended up becoming my closest friends. And my biggest inspirations.
Because the thing is, no matter how fantastic guy friends are, they will never be able to share some experiences that I have. Not because they don’t care or they’re not empathetic enough, but because their experiences are completely different. Because they’re guys or non-binary. And I’m a girl.
The girls around me became my biggest strength.
