When I was small, I was told there were many things I needed to do. I needed to be quiet, I needed to put on a dress, and I needed to smile a lot. I needed to have the cutest barbie doll, the fanciest stickers, and the pinkest dress.

When I was starting school, I was told there were many things I needed to. I needed to read a lot, I needed to have lots of friends, and I needed to study. I needed to have the coolest backpack, the bestest of friends, and the tastiest lunch box.

When I was a teenager, I was told there were many things I needed to do. I needed to get a boyfriend, I needed to learn how to cook, and I needed to learn how to party. I needed to have the latest fashion, the hottest guy, and the tastiest dishes.

When I was graduating from university, I was told there were many things I needed to do. I needed to find the love of my life, I needed to have a successful career, and I needed to figure my life out. I needed to have a Plan, a Marriage, and the best lasagna recipe to share at dinner parties.

When I was in my 20’s, I was told there were many things I needed to do and to have. But I also realised that I did not really need them after all. The only thing I really needed was myself. The rest is a bonus, and a point on the To Do List. While there…
